What’s New Lately

Thought I’d stop in and share about what  I have been up to lately. Although I love sharing about fashion and outfit photos which is the main content I write about on my blog my blog, there’s so many other interests I have that I don’t share about on day to day basis. Personal posts are something I want to include more of. I can post pretty outfit photos all day long but you never really get to fully get to know me on a deeper level. Here’s some random thoughts I have had lately bouncing around in my head to hopefully help you get to know me better:

Bedroom update // My room is almost finished! You can read about my first room decorating update here. My family recently moved and I have been re-doing my room. Right now I’m working on staining my shiplap so I can finally add it to my accent wall. Once that’s finished I just need to hang my necklace holder, photos and remaining wall decor. Oh and buy a new comforter to match my boho/beach theme. Once it’s finished I’ll do a full blog post all about it! I really wish I had more money to buy a new bookshelf but that’s just not in my budget right now. I know it would make my room look so much prettier! #thestruggleisreal

Visit to St. Pete // I recently went to St. Pete with my boyfriend to visit my friend Erin and her fiance, Daniel. We were only technically there for a full day so we had to make the most of our trip. There’s so much to do there but since this trip was so short we decided to spend the whole day on the water. Daniel’s dad took us all out on the boat and I learned how to wateboard for the first time. Josh and I both eventually stood up and I got some awesome video footage of us on my GoPro.

I was so incredibly sore the next day it was unbelievable (is this is what getting older feels like?). Once we finished we drove to an island and anchored the boat and swam around. When we got out of the boat to walk around on the island, there were millions of sand dollars. I tried to bring one home but it broke. =/ We had so much fun hanging out with another couple our age and just chatting about life! It’s so refreshing to have deep and meaningful conversations with people you can relate to and truly adore! I do hope to plan more trips like this in the future!

Trinity Fitness Trainer // Most of you probably don’t know but I train a class every Tuesday night at the gym I work out at called Trinity Fitness. I tend to use my workout time as an oasis away from blog, work, life, etc, which is why I don’t talk much about it. I started in April and have done it for 3 months now. It’s been a huge learning experience but super fun. Before I first started I was really nervous about talking in front of a huge crowd (30-50), especially because they were my peers and people I see everyday.

What I found the hardest part about being a trainer is being assertive. It’s nerve wracking telling people what to do (especially people twice your age or guys who life 10xs at much as you do) but I can tell I am am gaining more confidence every week and it’s my goal to keep them safe. Learning all of the movements and wording to tell people how to perform a certain exercise also took a while to learn. In the beginning I felt super nervous and overwhelmed but the more classes I train, the more I am starting to feel at ease. We have a trainers retreat at the beach coming up in July which I am really excited about!

Work Lately // I work at a church doing their publications. Typically during the week I do a lot of editing, writing and printing things like bulletins, posters and brochures. Right now I’m working on a program for a 4th of July celebration to honor those who have served our country. Making sure all of the names are spelled correctly and in the right category is what takes the longest amount of time. I’ve worked here for 4 years so I pretty much have the hang of things and what’s expected of me on a daily basis. I can’t say it’s the most exciting job in the world (requires a lot of sitting and screen time) but it’s not completely boring either and gives me enough creative freedom where I’m not completely bored.

New Camera Lens // What I really really really want is a new camera lens. Their just so darn expensive. I mostly use a 50mm lens but I would really love to save up and buy either a 35 mm lens or a wide angle lens. I was borrowing my friends 24-35 mm lens but for some reason that specific Sigma lens would not focus right on my camera body but boy did the lens work amazing! Hopefully within the next few months I’ll be able to save up and buy one!

Listening to New Podcasts // Recently I have started listening to Podcasts and am currently listening to one about Mason Bees (their pretty interesting critters). I am a super inexperienced Podcaster (is that even a word?). When I first started it was hard and frustrating to learn only through listening because I learn better visually. It’s so hard for my brain to drive and listen (I mostly listen to them in the car to pass time). Like I legit drove past the street I live on not once but twice because I was trying to concentrate on the Podcast. Maybe I’m not as multi talented as I assume I am.

Finding content that was interesting to me was also a challenge. The most interesting one I’ve listened to so far is by Jenna Kutcher called The Goal Digger. She talks about business, social media and being a girl poss. On a personal level, I’m not even sure my parents or friends know I listen to them lol but I guess they do now! The reason I started listening to them is because my boyfriend loves learning new things, so it gives me a fun way to learn something new and discuss it with him.

Unicorn Pizza Craze // I am the last person to fall into crazes like the pink unicorn Starbucks drink. I just don’t understand them, I think it’s a waste of money and it doesn’t even sound appealing to me. (just my opinion, if you like them go for it!) Recently I read an article on Popsugar about the new unicorn pizza. It’s a sugary pizza full of rainbow sprinkles and icing, topped with cotton candy. I think it looks better than it sounds. Sometimes I feel so behind with what’s cool but I did consult with my Jr. High aged niece and nephew and they both agreed that the pizza sounded gross and they did not know about it. Made me feel better. Has anyone tried either the drink or pizza? I’m curious are they even good?!

What I bought lately // It’s not a complete post unless I talk a little bit about clothes! A few weeks ago LOFT had a 40% off sale so I ordered a few pieces from them. I bought a floral romper, 3 tiered skirt and a striped tank top. If you’ve seen my Instagram, you may have noticed I posted a photo of adorable pink tie shoes that resemble ballerina shoes. I ordered them from Zappos for $60 and I can’t seem to stop wearing them. I also bought 2 avosavers I ordered with Amazon Prime and gave one to a co-worker and another to a friend just because. If you an avid avocado lover like me you seriously need one! Best purchase ever.

Hope you enjoyed reading all the random thoughts in my head. I do enjoy more personal posts and want to truly be open and vulnerable as much as possible with you guys! I’m open for suggestions as to what you’d like me to talk more about. Let me know if these are something you are interested in reading more of in the future!

It’s so cool that you are a fitness teacher! I love taking group classes, and in fact I don’t really work out well on my own at all. The teacher can totally make or break a class!
And I’m also on the hunt for a new lense! My photographer friend told me that I should get a variety a few years ago when I got my first real camera. I figured I needed to learn how to use the body first before I did anything else. Well, then she let me use her camera….now I get it! I wish they weren’t so expensive-especially since it’s just a hobby.

Thanks Kirsten! I agree, I spent all my college years working out alone in a gym and I found it so boring and repetitive. The gym I workout at and train at the workout are different every single day which I probably why I love it so much. There’s so much variety every time I go. Yes I think it’s super important to learn how to work a camera body but when you have a nicer lens, working with the lighting becomes so much easier. Same here. I’d love to blog full time and make an income but until that time I need to carefully choose how much I actually want to invest in a lens.
